Here is his prediction and analysis for who moves on to Super Bowl 2019 between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
CHIEFS (-3) over Patriots: You’re well-familiar with the traditional Patriots seasonal approach by now … get off awkwardly, proceed to iron out the kinks, then finish relentlessly — often in the Super Bowl. However, it hasn’t been so easy for them over the past decade, when not even the cushy opposition put up by the modest AFC East has been sufficient to boost Bill Belichick’s crew into eternal home-field advantages throughout the AFC tournament.
NFL students point out how often the Chiefs have given the Patriots regular-season grief of late. Now, it’s cricket to give due attention to Kansas City coach Andy Reid’s sustained postseason difficulties, but, then, this is Reid’s first season enjoying the services of rookie wonder QB Patrick Mahomes — successor to Alex Smith, Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle and Trent Green.
Critical Los Angeles Chargers injury issues at linebacker lessened the Bolts’ defense, and the Patriots’ offense took full advantage of LA’s defensive passivity last week. Reid may finally score his second Big Dance date. Likely worst case? Last team to score, covers. Chiefs ease clear at Arrowhead, for one unit.
